Required Language Skills

Depending on the courses that you wish to take at the University of Augsburg, you must provide the following proof of your language skills:

  • Courses taught in German:
    German language skills at level B2

  • Courses taught in English:
    English language skills at level B2
    and basic German language skills

Exchange students with language proficiencies under B2 in German or in English can be accepted as well, if they are planning to take only German language courses at the university’s language center (no academic courses offered by university faculties). Proof of German language skills at level B1 must be provided, proof of English knowledge is not required.

Accepted Proof of Language Skills

  • German language skills at level B1/B2 :
     
    • Official language certificates:
      DSH / Test DaF / onDaF / DSD II (language certificate from the Kultusministerkonferenz) / Language certificate from the Goethe Institute / Language certificate from a TELC institute / ÖSD  (Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch)

    • Are you unable to provide one of these official certificates? If this is the case, let your German professor proctor a short exam for the WeltWeit Language Certificate:

  • Basic German Skills:
     
    • Confirmation of completion of a beginner’s level German course
    • Confirmation of registration for a beginner’s level German course by the time of application to the WeltWeit program

  • English language skills at level B2 (CERF):
     
    • TOEFL iBT (72 - 94)
    • TOEFL ITP (567 - 636)
    • IELTS (5.5 - 6.5)
    • TOIEC (400 - 485 listening, 385 - 450 reading)
